Frequently Asked Questions

Q.  How much margin do I need to leave on the pages?

A.  A margin of ¾ – 1 inch allows enough for the binding on the spine and allows for a little bit to be trimmed off of the other three edges to make sure it is all square and even.

Q.  Do I need to send you the printed pages or can you do the printing for me?

A.  I can arrange to have the pages printed at my local print shop.  The cost for printing is $.20/page of black and white and $.65/page with color, plus a $7 file transfer fee.  So, you can decide which way you would like to go with that.

Q.  What is the thickest that a book can be?

A.  2 1/2 inches is the maximum to allow for final trimming of the pages.

Q.  What is the largest dimension that a book can be?

A.  11” x 14”

Q. What is a flyleaf?

A.  The flyleaf (also known as the end sheet) is the very front and back page that is attached to the inside of the cover. It is double the size of the pages and folded in half at the spine.  Look at any hardback book on your bookshelf and you will see what I mean.

Q.  What is the thinnest that a book can be?

A.  I have made a book that had only 4 pages!

Q. What is the oldest book you have worked on?

A. In 2020, I rebound a New Testament from 1681.  The cover was in bad shape.  I made a new cover using the “distress” leather, so it retained that old look.
